About this test

Ultrasound Whole Abdomen is a non-invasive imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to examine the major organs of the abdomen. It is commonly used to assess the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and urinary bladder.

Preparation

Usually fasting for 6–8 hours is recommended. Avoid heavy/fatty meals before the examination. Plain water may generally be taken in moderation. For assessment of the urinary bladder, the centre may ask the patient to drink water and keep the bladder full. Follow the diagnostic centre's specific instructions because preparation can vary.
