An Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP) is an X-ray exam of the urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, and bladder). During the test, a contrast dye is injected into a vein. As the dye travels through your bloodstream and is processed by your kidneys, X-ray images are taken to reveal blockages, stones, or structural problems.
